Road Trip: Day Five

A Day in Asheville, NC

We got a late start today. The bed was so incredibly warm and comfortable that it was nearly impossible to get up. Once we ate breakfast and showered, we slowly made our way out the door and into the car. We spent the day at Warren Wilson College, where Catie and Jessie went for undergrad. The college has a very unique education model, which includes having students work on a student-run farm. The farm includes all sorts of animals, including enormous pigs! I have been to several farms in Western Mass but I have never seen pigs this huge!

After ogling at the enormous pigs, we headed out to the trails. I absolutely love that this trip has included so many hikes! I love being outdoors and basking in nature's beauty. Warren Wilson College has incredible trails that wind alongside a rushing river.

We spent the late afternoon in downtown Asheville. The town is filled with unique and locally owned shops including a dog treat bakery and wig shop. As we window shopped, I tried to guess whether the shops were expensive thrift stores or hipster boutiques. It was not always easy to tell! Before heading home, we ate dinner at a cute vegetarian restaurant. The entire experience reminded me a little of being in Northampton, Massachusetts with a southern twist.

Back at Catie and Jessie's cute home, Jessie built a fire and we roasted marshmallows while sipping hot toddies. It was the perfect ending to a lovely, relaxing day.
