Road Trip: Day Six

Asheville, NC to Atlanta, GA

199 miles
4 hours
2 scoops of ice cream
0 goats

On our way through Clayton, we stopped at a roadside creamery. The ice cream was absolutely delicious. I got one scoop of mint chip and one scoop of cookies and cream. I could tell it was made from fresh milk. It was rich, thick and creamy. As Becca and I ate our ice cream, we watched the cows that supplied the milk roam around a pasture.

Our stop in Clayton marked the halfway point to Atlanta. A little closer to Atlanta, we passed Goats on the Roof. Catie and Jessie had a refrigerator magnet from Goats on the Roof. They explained the bizarre pitstop to us but it didn't entirely make sense until we saw it ourselves. The main structure looks similar to a barn but the animals live on the roof instead of inside. Becca and I walked around trying to figure out why the goats live on the roof. We found this explanation posted on the side of the building.

We must have visited during an off season because there were no goats out! We strained our ears trying to hear the bleating of goats but it was clear there were no goats present. Puzzled by the lack of goats, we quickly moved on and headed towards Atlanta!

We pulled up to our hostel around dinner time. I didn't expect the place to be gorgeous but it was the grungiest place I have ever stayed. We had to make our own beds, which reveal that the mattresses were old, worn out and stained. Needless to say, we didn't want to spend too much time in the hostel. We quickly left and walked around midtown Atlanta. We walked down Piedmont Ave looking for a place to eat. While reading a menu outside 10th and Piedmont, a stranger called out to us from his car recommending we eat there.

We split an order of chicken and waffles! I didn't think I would like deep fried chicken wrapped in bacon but it was absolutely delicious! After dinner, a fellow Moho showed us around Atlanta. We drove through the graffiti tunnel, walked around Little Five Points and checked out Vortex. It was great to get a tour of Atlanta from a native! I can't wait to see some of these places in daylight!
