Spread the Love and Support

As a United States citizen and enthusiastic runner, my heart goes out to all those affected by the Boston Marathon bombings. But I also want to shed light on other tragedies that have occurred throughout the world in the past twenty-four hours. There was a drone strike in Pakistan, a devastating earthquake in Iran/Pakistan and several car bombings in Iraq (to name a few).

The bombings in Boston hit close to home. However, it is important to remember that while these attacks are rare in the United States, they are a common occurrence in other countries. In fact, drone strikes are a regular part of United States military policy. Between 2004 and 2013, there have been approximately 350 US drone strikes in Pakistan, killing approximately 450 civilians.

I truly admire the love, support, and resiliency being demonstrated in Boston during this time of mourning. But please do not allow this domestic event to overshadow tragedies occurring elsewhere. Let us demonstrate love and support for other countries mourning the loss of their loved ones. I hope that this tragic event can facilitate international support networks rather than foster hate.
