Last Week Tonight, analyzes systematic, institutionalized forms of inequality and discrimination in the United States. He does not focus on current events reporting. Instead, he investigates and criticizes flawed institutions that many Americans rarely acknowledge. He brings attention to ongoing issues that need recognition and resolution. He has covered everything from mass incarceration to sugar consumption to student debt.
